Seattle’s defence stifles New England in a 29-13 Super Bowl victory, powered by a record-setting kicking performance and relentless pressure.
THE Seattle Seahawks delivered a commanding defensive performance to overpower the New England Patriots 29-13 and secure the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Quarterback Sam Darnold threw one touchdown pass while kicker Jason Myers set a Super Bowl record with five successful field goals.
The Patriots’ offence, led by 23-year-old quarterback Drake Maye, was completely stifled by Seattle’s relentless pass rush throughout the game.
Maye was sacked six times and struggled to generate any momentum, with New England punting on eight of its first nine possessions.
His difficult night was compounded by a fourth-quarter interception that set up another Myers field goal for Seattle.
The Seahawks sealed the victory when linebacker Uchenna Nwosu returned a strip-sack of Maye for a defensive touchdown.
The game was enlivened by a half-time performance from Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, though the on-field action offered few offensive thrills.
The win marks the second Super Bowl championship in the history of the Seattle Seahawks franchise.
