Alcaraz confident his level is rising after reaching Australian Open last 16

Carlos Alcaraz says his game is improving after a straight-sets win over Corentin Moutet to reach the Australian Open fourth round.

CARLOS Alcaraz issued a confident warning to his rivals after powering into the Australian Open fourth round on Friday.

The Spanish top seed delivered a commanding 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 victory over France’s Corentin Moutet in his 100th Grand Slam match.

He will next face American 19th seed Tommy Paul for a place in the quarter-finals.

“I think my level is getting better and better,” said the six-time Grand Slam champion.

Alcaraz acknowledged the challenge of finding rhythm against Moutet’s unorthodox style but was pleased with his performance.

The 22-year-old is aiming to win the only major title missing from his collection.

A triumph in Melbourne would make him the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam.

His win-loss record in Slams now stands at an impressive 87-13, matching Bjorn Borg’s tally after 100 matches.

Alcaraz said he expects a tough battle against Paul, whom he praised for having “great shots, good hands as well”.

“I’ve got to play my style,” he added.

The Spaniard broke Moutet’s serve in the very first game to set the tone for a dominant opening set.

Moutet briefly rallied from 0-3 down in the second set with creative shot-making, including underarm serves.

Alcaraz quickly regained control and sealed the match with a straightforward third set. – AFP
