The legendary tale of forbidden love, duty and royalty which has been passed down through generations comes to Netflix this November.
Saw Teong Hin’s Puteri Gunung Ledang was Malaysia’s first big-budget film that won over the nation with its impressive screenwriting, acting and soundtrack.
The film won five awards at the Malaysian Film Festival 2004 including best director and best screenplay. It was also the first local production to be submitted to the 76th Academy Awards in 2004.
“Puteri Gunung Ledang was my first film, and very close to my heart. The film is based on a legend that many Malaysians have grown up with, and is an important part of our cultural heritage.”
“I’m excited to share this film again with Malaysians and a regional audience, especially the younger generation who may not have had a chance to watch it yet”, said director Saw Teong Hin.
Starring Datuk M. Nasir, Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina, Datuk Rahim Razali and Adlin Aman Ramlie, the film is set in 15th century Melaka centered around the forbidden romance between Gusti Putri, a Javanese-Hindu princess, and Hang Tuah, a Malay-Muslim warrior, against a backdrop of war and mysticism.
Puteri Gunung Ledang will be available on Netflix from November 26, 2020.
