IN 2020, researchers from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas speculated that the expensive car owners “felt a sense of superiority over other road users.” And according to a survey of 1,892 drivers by the University of Helsinki, those deemed to have more disagreeable character traits were “more drawn to high-status cars.”

It’s difficult to disagree with the study, especially since most recently an illegally parked flashy McLaren was spotted blocking the entrance of a luxury condominium around Mont Kiara.

A resident of the condominium posted in the Mont Kiara Community group on Facebook, Danier Noor claimed that the McLaren’s owner had parked his or her car in front of the rear entrance, which prevented the garbage truck from entering.

A few commentators in the same Facebook group expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation.

Roger Ong commented that the car should be picked up and be put inside the rubbish truck itself as Anne Hastie commented on how the person can afford to buy a McLaren but could not afford to pay RM2 parking fee.

Facebook user Akram Yusof said allegedly the driver used to run a company that took money from house owners during a pandemic for renovation, but the money is not being used for the said renovation.

The user further commented that it was surprising that the person can drive a McLaren and yet never returned any money to the house owners.

In Daniel’s post, however, it was not mentioned if the owner of the McLaren eventually came to move his car, or how the issue was settled.
