FINANCIAL abuse in marriage is when one partner exerts financial control over the other. And if not dealt, it can be a frightening situation to be in.

A woman recently shared on social media how her husband had taken over her entire finances. He even set a daily spending cap of only RM10 for her, and to make matters worse, she actually has a job.

The woman, who has only been married for a year, expressed her concerns regarding her husband’s nonsensical grip on her finances, according to Kosmo!

She allegedly asserted that she puts a lot of effort into her work as an administrative assistant at a law firm, yet her husband controls her pay-check and keeps her bank card locked.

“I put in ten hours a day at work, and my monthly salary is set in stone. He treats me like a financial imbecile,“ she bemoaned.

Additionally, the Johor Bahru resident pointed out that RM10 is not enough for everyday needs like motorcycle fuel.

“If I were just a housewife, I might understand some limitations, but this is the fruit of my own labour,” said the frustrated woman.

She is well-aware that her husband provides for the family as well and is conflicted at the thought of getting a divorce as she still harbours feelings for him.

This case has sparked a discussion about financial control in marriages and working women’s autonomy over their income, with many people taking issue with the husband’s management of his wife’s bank account and pay.

What do you think? Would you allow your spouse to take full charge of your salary and live your life with a given allowance?
