RECENTLY, a customer in Sungai Petani, Kedah, expressed his fury on Facebook after he was charged a rather pricey bill for a measly portion of ‘chap’ fan (economy rice).
The customer complained in a post on Saturday, December 9, about being charged RM18 for his economy rice dinner on the Facebook group SP人.
He had white rice, acar (pickled vegetables), and a chicken drumstick, based on the picture that was posted with the article.
“When I went to buy an acar and a chicken drumstick a few days ago, the lady manager charged me RM18. I was truly astonished by that!
“I told the lady boss that it was expensive when it was my turn to pay, but she didn’t say anything. Treating customers this way will make them not return,“ the man remarked.
The restaurant owner came forward to clarify the situation and give his side of the story shortly after his post became viral.
Speaking with China Press, the restaurant’s owner, Liang, stated that everything was a misunderstanding and invited the patron to come in and get clarification.
“If it turned out that the patron had overpaid for the dinner, he would be happy to reimburse him the additional costs.” He asserted.
“After watching the CCTV tape from December 6, I noticed that the client had eaten the same meals at lunch. I’m not positive if the customer actually arrived on that day since there are many discrepancies.”
“The maximum amount that could be charged was RM12. The CCTV footage clearly showed that the customer took three spoonfuls of acar, with the first being a full portion and the second and third calculated as one portion,“ he observed.
Liang added that she never heard the guy complain about how pricey his food was since the manager was too busy taking payments and chatting with customers during lunch rush hour.
