BLUE Beetle actor Xolo Maridueña believes Jaime Reyes will return soon to the newly established DC Universe (DCU).
The 2023 superhero film marked one of the final chapters in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as it transitioned to the DCU under the guidance of DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
While the DCU is set to begin with 2025’s Superman: Legacy, the fate of DCEU characters in terms of return or recasting remains uncertain. However, Mariduena expressed confidence in the character’s comeback, stating that it will likely happen “soon”, although the exact details are unclear.
“I know we’ll see Blue Beetle again, whether it comes in the form of Blue Beetle 2 or wherever,“ said the actor.
He further stated, “It’s been really great to work alongside James and Peter, who have graciously folded us into their new universe even though it wasn’t part of what they came up with. It’s an honour. Now, where will Blue Beetle head in the future? I don’t know. But I can confidently say that we will see him soon.”
Mariduena’s confidence in Blue Beetle’s return to the DC Universe suggests a promising future for the character. The uncertainty surrounding the potential sequel Blue Beetle 2 adds an element of intrigue to the character’s trajectory.
Despite the original movie encountering challenges in terms of commercial success during the final stages of the DCEU, the actor’s optimistic outlook raises hopes for a successful and compelling continuation of the superhero movies in the evolving DCU.
