Flood victims in Sarawak drop to 1,630 as one relief centre closes, leaving nine active centres still operating across four districts.
KUCHING: One flood relief centre in Sarawak was closed this afternoon, leaving nine centres still active across the state.
The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said the active centres are located in Serian, Sibu, Bintulu and Sebauh districts.
As of 4 pm, the number of flood victims had declined to 1,630 people from 506 families.
This compares to 1,773 people from 560 families recorded this morning.
The centre housing the most victims is SK Tanah Puteh in Serian, sheltering 448 people from 131 families.
Serian Community Hall is accommodating 311 people from 91 families, while Dewan Suarah Bintulu houses 262 people from 84 families.
Dewan Sri Kemena at SMK Sebauh is providing shelter for 189 people from 57 families.
The flood disaster in Sarawak began on Dec 31, when several areas around Kuching city were inundated following continuous heavy rain.
