Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene and taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

“The post-mortem results found that the woman’s cause of death was asphyxia-related, while her son was believed to have been smothered,” he said in a statement.

Acting on information and investigation results, police arrested the 33-year-old doctor, the victim’s husband, on January 3.

Officers also seized a knife with a sheath and a pillow to assist in the investigation.

The suspect has been remanded for 13 days from January 4.

“The results of a check found that the suspect has no previous criminal record and the initial urine screening test was also negative for drugs,” Ab Rahaman said.

The suspect will be charged at the Magistrate’s Court under Section 302, Section 201 and Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Police advised the public not to make any speculation or spread unverified information that could affect the investigation. – Bernama
