NCID smashes drug syndicates with record RM3.19 billion haul

NCID seized a record RM3.19 billion in drugs in 2025, crippling 270 syndicates and dismantling 21 labs in a major blow to narcotics networks.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) delivered a massive blow to drug syndicates last year with a record-breaking haul.

Drugs and poisons worth RM3.19 billion were seized in 2025, an almost eightfold increase from the RM388 million confiscated the previous year.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the figures prove the NCID’s effectiveness in curbing supply.

He stated the operations safeguard both current and future generations from the threat of narcotics.

Authorities successfully crippled 270 syndicates with the arrest of 737 members last year.

This compares to 236 syndicates and 714 arrests in 2024.

Police also dismantled 21 drug laboratories in 2025, up from 12 the year before.

To cripple the financial power of these networks, the NCID seized assets worth approximately RM144 million.

It also secured the forfeiture of nearly RM31 million in property during the same period.

“These figures are a significant increase compared to 2024,” Mohd Khalid said.

He noted the previous year recorded seizures of approximately RM100 million and forfeitures of nearly RM14 million.

The IGP said this demonstrates successful strategies to cripple the syndicates’ overall operations.

Meanwhile, arrests under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 declined by 27%.

There were 811 arrests in 2025 compared to 1,111 previously.

Mohd Khalid said the drop reflected the effectiveness of preventive approaches.

He added it showed the successful dismantling of major syndicates that had previously contributed significantly to arrest statistics.

The IGP was speaking at his monthly assembly in Bukit Aman today.

He also presented certificates of appreciation to 26 police officers and civil servants for outstanding service.
