M’sian worker’s annual leave rejected despite two-month notice

A Malaysian’s Europe trip plans went viral after a boss rejected their annual leave applied months earlier, igniting debate on workplace rights.

A Malaysian employee was recently caught in a dilemma after their annual leave was rejected by their boss, despite having applied for it much earlier.

Shared on Threads, the worker claimed they had submitted their annual leave application two months earlier.

The employee was planning a seven-day trip to Europe.

“His excuse was that I did not discuss the matter with him before purchasing the tickets.

“Does he think he is my father, that I have to ask for permission?” the employee said.

Netizens reminded the worker that their boss has no right to withhold approved annual leave.

“Find another job. This lousy boss is on a power trip,” one user said.

“Demand an explanation from the human resources department and your boss, since you already applied two months in advance. Your boss should have made arrangements for the rest of your team by then,” another commented.

However, some netizens felt that the employee should have properly discussed their annual leave with their boss.

One suggested that the boss was likely prioritising the team’s interests and did not want to burden others with additional work.
