MP8 to speak at #TangkapAzamBaki rally in KL today – Rafizi

Rafizi Ramli and MP8 will speak at the Sogo rally urging Azam Baki’s suspension amid share probe

PETALING JAYA: Pandan MP Datuk Rafizi Ramli (pic) said the protest calling for the suspension of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki will be held outside the Sogo shopping mall along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman this evening.

In a Facebook post, the former economy minister said he and his fellow Members of Parliament from MP8 will be attending the rally.

MP8 is a team led by Rafizi, comprising seven other senior PKR leaders: Aminuddin Harun (Port Dickson MP), Chang Lih Kang (Tanjung Malim MP), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa MP), Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (Johor Bahru MP), Wong Chen (Subang MP), Razeef Rakimin (Sabah PKR information chief), and Chua Wei Kiat (Rawang assemblyman).

He said the organisers had informed him that he, Nik Nazmi and Wong Chen would be the three leaders delivering speeches at the #TangkapAzamBaki protest between 4pm and 5pm.

“There will not be enough time for Rodziah Ismail (Ampang MP) and Zahir Hassan (Wangsa Maju MP), who will also be in attendance,” he added.

Earlier today, Azam Baki rejected calls for him to take leave while under investigation over allegations concerning his share ownership.

Responding to demands from several Members of Parliament that he step aside temporarily, Azam dismissed the suggestion as unnecessary.

Earlier, international news outlet Bloomberg reported that Azam owned shares in a financial services company, based on corporate filings with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

However, the MACC chief clarified at a recent press conference that his RM800,000 shareholding in the financial services firm was conducted transparently and in accordance with proper procedures.
