Ukraine reports major Russian missile and drone strikes on energy infrastructure, killing at least one and injuring five in Kyiv region.
KYIV: Russia launched a major overnight assault on Ukraine using dozens of strike drones, ballistic and cruise missiles.
The Ukrainian military said the attacks focused on energy infrastructure across several regions.
Strikes hit the capital Kyiv, the surrounding region, the Black Sea port of Odesa, and central Ukraine.
At least one person was killed and five others were injured in the Kyiv region, according to local officials.
Regional Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported damage in five districts where more than a dozen houses were damaged.
Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said a nighttime drone attack targeted the region’s energy infrastructure, causing fires that were later extinguished.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the attacks on social media platform X.
“Russia continues to undermine diplomacy with terrorist mass strikes,” Sybiha stated.
“This terror cannot be normalised; it must be stopped.”
He called on the international community to impose tough sanctions against the Kremlin.
Russia attacks the Ukrainian energy system almost daily, striking thermal power plants and electrical substations.
These assaults on power stations and the energy transmission system are a key element of the full-scale invasion launched in February 2022.
Moscow says it is seeking to undermine Ukraine’s ability to fight.
