Dashcam captures a schoolgirl crossing safely, nodding in thanks, sparking reflections on everyday manners.

IN a world where daily routines often make us numb to the small gestures around us, it’s easy to overlook the quiet manners that speak volumes.

A simple nod, a brief pause, a polite “thank you” — these are moments that remind us of the humanity in everyday life.

On Threads, @intan_syuhada1802 shared a video dated Feb 25 that captured just such a moment.

The short clip, taken from a car dashcam, shows the driver waiting to merge left into a busy main road.

Traffic moves slowly as vehicles ahead filter into the lane one by one. Amid that ordinary congestion, a girl in school uniform waits at the roadside for her chance to cross.

As the dashcam car inches forward, the driver notices her and makes way.

She jogs across — not a full sprint, just a slightly hurried run — and once she reaches the other side, she nods her head in thanks before continuing on.

“It warms my heart to see that there are still children these days who are well-mannered. She even bowed her head to say thank you. May this little one always be under Allah’s protection, Ameen,” wrote @intan_syuhada1802.

Others shared similar experiences. @nndzrh recalled, “I’ve experienced this too. I was about to cross the road when a schoolboy, maybe Year 5 or 6, rode past on his bicycle. I let him go first. As he passed me, he said, ‘Thank you, peace be upon you.’ It felt so calming to hear. The child must be well brought up. His parents clearly did a good job.”

@bodidrahmat added, “That’s true. It’s not easy to see children these days being this polite. Even when we try to teach our own children and remind them repeatedly, it can still be tough.”

Others emphasised the role of upbringing.

“It all comes down to the upbringing from parents and teachers,” wrote @azfian_piang_abd_aziz. @keyrolrepsol added, “It’s all thanks to the guidance of parents, teachers, and religious teachers who educate students to have good manners so they are respected. May this child grow up to be righteous and successful in this world and the hereafter. Ameen.”

There were lighter reflections too.

@nadbuckharry shared, “My second child is six. He’s used to crossing the road because we usually walk everywhere — I don’t have a driving licence. Only nearby roads, though. When he wants to cross, he’ll use ‘the power of his hand’ to signal cars to stop. And while crossing, he’ll bow as well. I end up having to quickly pull him along.”

Meanwhile, @uyahlatif wrote, “My youngest is four. From far away, he’ll eagerly raise his hand asking cars to give way. Sometimes drivers just laugh at his antics, even though I’m the one holding his hand to cross the road.”

For many, the video is a reminder of how small gestures can stand out in ordinary life. @shasazzyz summed it up: “Melts my heart watching this. May that child always be surrounded by good people and protected.”

No typical road drama, no confrontation, no raised voices. Just a well-mannered student expressing simple gratitude, and a driver whose heart is quietly warmed by the small, human exchange.
