NUTP supports MOE’s decision to restore SSDM system to original function, easing teacher burden and addressing workload concerns.

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Union of Teaching Profession has welcomed the Ministry of Education’s decision to restore the Student Self-Personality System to its original function of recording student misconduct.

NUTP president Aminuddin Awang stated that teachers previously had to input hundreds or even thousands of good student practice data into SSDM despite its original purpose being misconduct recording.

He expressed that Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek’s announcement about restoring the system’s original function represents very reassuring news for teachers nationwide.

Fadhlina had earlier announced that these improvement measures would allow teachers to focus on their primary responsibilities including New Primary and Secondary School Curriculum implementation.

The minister confirmed these improvement measures will be finalised soon to ensure they genuinely help ease teachers’ tasks.

Aminuddin noted this announcement aligns with NUTP study findings presented at the convention involving 26 nationwide studies on current teacher issues and workloads.

He also appreciated the MOE for recruiting over 10,000 new teachers including 500 guidance and counselling teachers to address workload and staff shortages.

The NUTP president proposed changing the guidance teacher ratio to one per 350 students instead of the current 500 students due to increasing disciplinary issues.

NUTP assistant secretary-general Muhammad Ridzuan Idris suggested the MOE conduct comprehensive nationwide studies on teacher mental health.

The Malaysian Teachers’ Voice Convention 2025 brought together 26 key teacher issues including wellbeing, professionalism and educator character development. – Bernama
