IPOH: The Perak government has allocated up to RM200,000 to repair 127 houses in Kampung Tasek here that were badly damaged due to a storm on Wednesday.
Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad (pix) said that repair work on the houses, many of which had their roofs blown off, would commence tomorrow.
âYayasan Perak also donated boxes of dried food for household use,â he said, when presenting the Disaster Relief Fund for Kampung Tasek storm victims today.
In the incident, on the second day of Muslims observing Ramadan, heavy rain and strong winds for almost two hours also caused more than 20 large trees and several electric poles to be uprooted and fall onto vehicles and houses.
A housewife, Zainoyah Nordin, 52, said that the incident happened when she and her family were preparing to break their fast.
âThe incident happened so fast and we could not do anything. I saw a white wind cross the house before the roof of my house was lifted. The sound of rain was like a hailstorm,â she told reporters.
She, however, was grateful that her family members were safe and they were still able to break their fast, even in the dark and rain.
Another victim, Syahrul Hisyam Saharin, 49, expressed sadness because almost his entire house was destroyed in the incident.
Syahrul Hisyam, who works as a security guard, is currently staying at a boarding house while waiting for his house to be repaired. â Bernama
