KLANG: The 35th Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR) commences tomorrow with 28 international teams competing in a challenging nine-day sailing race.

The event begins at Port Klang and proceeds to Pangkor Island before continuing to Penang Island, concluding with a final leg on Langkawi Island.

Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has graciously consented to participate in this prestigious regatta.

His wife Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz will also attend the glamorous sailing competition.

RMSIR chairman Irsyad Ismail confirmed Tengku Amir Shah has participated in the tournament more than three times previously.

“Sailing is actually a hobby for the Raja Muda and he is very passionate about sailing,” Irsyad stated during the opening ceremony at Royal Selangor Yacht Club.

The RMSIR was established in 1990 through the vision of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during his tenure as Raja Muda.

This regatta ranks as the second oldest sailing competition in Asia and remains Southeast Asia’s most difficult sailing challenge. – Bernama
