“Thanks for wasting everyone’s time” says HR after M’sian declines job offer politely

Malaysians criticise hiring manager’s unprofessional response after candidate politely declines job offer.

A Malaysian jobseeker has sparked debate online after sharing a WhatsApp exchange with a hiring manager who reacted unexpectedly harshly when he politely declined a job offer.

In a Threads post, he informed the hiring manager politely that he accepted another offer from a different company as it aligned better with his long-term goals.

But the reply he received?

“Emm thx for wasting everyone’s time.”

Surprised, he added that in the comment section that the employer or HR should not be speaking to a candidate in such a manner.

“Just respond politely, even if you feel the candidate has wasted your time. It’s part of the recruitment process anyway.”

He also explained that he was posting about the issue not the speak ill of the company but candidates are allowed to review the offer letter and decide on whether to accept or reject it.

“That takes time, maybe about a week, especially in my case where I had several offers from different companies.”

Many Malaysians felt the reply was unprofessional and validated the candidate’s decision.

“Bro, you should’ve replied — thank you for further validating my decision to work elsewhere,” one user, drezranrasli, commented.

Some felt the candidate actually escaped a toxic workplace.
“You’re dodging a bullet there,” said claudiofresta.
