Sabah state election nomination centres close, campaign begins

Nomination for Sabah state election closes with 1.78 million voters eligible to cast ballots on Nov 29, campaign period runs for 14 days.

KOTA KINABALU: All 25 nomination centres for the 17th Sabah State Election closed at 10 am today after operating for one hour.

Returning officers at each centre made the official announcement following the nomination process.

Bernama observed groups of supporters gathering at various locations to show support for contesting candidates.

Some supporters wore traditional attire while cheering for their preferred candidates.

The situation remained calm and controlled across all nomination centres with no reported provocations.

Royal Malaysia Police closely supervised proceedings with assistance from the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department.

The Election Commission has set November 25 for early voting and November 29 as polling day.

Campaigning will run for 14 days beginning today until 11.59 pm on November 28.

A total of 1,784,843 electors are eligible to cast their ballots in the state election.

This includes 1,760,417 regular electors, 11,697 military personnel and spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and spouses. – Bernama
