Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid celebrates as over 19,500 KEMAS kindergarten pupils lead tarawih prayers, showcasing early Quranic education success.

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed pride in a national programme that saw 19,533 young children confidently lead tarawih prayers.

The pupils, from 2,773 Community Development Department (KEMAS) kindergartens nationwide, performed the prayers on the 27th night of Ramadan.

Ahmad Zahid said the event reflects the effectiveness of the KEMAS Pre-Tahfiz Programme in nurturing a love for the Quran from an early age.

He described the sight of young children leading prayers as a heart-warming symbol of early education rooted in strong religious values.

“This is among the outcomes of efforts through the KEMAS Pre-Tahfiz Programme in shaping a generation that is close to the Quran,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Alhamdulillah, what we have worked on is beginning to show results.”

The Minister of Rural and Regional Development credited the achievement to the dedication of KEMAS teachers and strong parental support.

He expressed appreciation to all parties for ensuring KEMAS education emphasises character building and religious values beyond academics.

Ahmad Zahid added that the initiative aims to produce a Quran-literate generation who can serve as role models and contribute to the nation’s future.
