“But over time, I feel like it is getting harder to save… My salary is not that high,” he said.

IN an era of escalating living costs, many young couples find the journey towards marriage financially daunting.

For one local man, the struggle to balance romance with a wedding budget has reached a breaking point, sparking a widespread debate on relationship transparency.

The man took to the social media platform Threads to share his predicament, revealing that his efforts to save for his upcoming nuptials are being undermined by a lifestyle he can no longer sustain.

According to the viral post, the man’s partner requests weekly dates, specifically at shopping malls, which often lead to significant expenditure.

Beyond the weekend outings, the couple also meet during the work week for lunch and coffee sessions.

“Almost every week she wants to go on dates, usually at the mall,” he wrote.

While he initially prioritised her happiness over his bank balance, the financial strain has become impossible to ignore.

“I am actually okay with it, because to me, if she is happy, then I am happy. But over time, I feel like it is getting harder to save… My salary is not that high,” he said.

Admitting that the frequency of these outings has left him feeling “financially strained,” he turned to the online community for a solution to a delicate problem: “How do I tell her without hurting her feelings? Please help.”

The post quickly drew a flurry of mixed reactions. While some users offered sympathy, many others identified the situation as a symptom of poor communication within the relationship.

“If you have already tried talking to her and it is not working, just leave. Better than getting married and ending up with a headache,” one user suggested.

Another netizen echoed the sentiment, questioning the long-term viability of the union: “If you are already struggling to communicate before marriage, what will it be like after?”
