A civil servant pleaded not guilty to five charges of accepting RM12,200 in bribes related to his official duties.
KUALA TERENGGANU: A civil servant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to five charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM12,200.
Yusri Yunus, 51, who was an assistant engineer with the Kemaman Municipal Council at the time of the alleged offences, is accused of accepting RM5,000 from a company director and a total of RM7,200 from another individual in connection with his official duties.
The payments were allegedly deposited into his bank account.
The offences were allegedly committed in the Kemaman district on March 3, 2015, and between January 27, 2015, and May 12, 2016.
The charges were brought under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Judge Azman Mustapha allowed Yusri bail of RM10,000 with one surety and also ordered him to report to the MACC office once a month, not interfere with witnesses, and surrender his passport to the court.
The court set August 17 for mention.
MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Amalina Najwa Mohd Ali appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Ahmad Nur Faid Afiq Aziz represented Yusri.
