GRS candidate pledges to continue land title push in Kuamut

GRS candidate Masiung Banah vows to continue resolving land ownership issues in Kuamut, having helped nearly 10,000 residents secure land grants since 2008.

SANDAKAN: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah candidate Datuk Masiung Banah has pledged to continue championing land ownership issues for Kuamut residents.

He said he established a Special Technical Committee after becoming assemblyman in 2008 to facilitate villagers’ land grant applications.

Nearly 10,000 people have successfully obtained land grants during his tenure.

“A portion of the applications are still in the measurement process under the Sabah Native Land Survey Special Programme,” he told reporters at the Communications Ministry Media Centre.

Masiung said this record proves his continued commitment to villagers’ land rights.

The issue remains among the core pillars of his election manifesto.

The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah vice-president also emphasised the need for continued state-federal cooperation after the election.

He acknowledged sentiments favouring local party leadership but stressed federal cooperation must not be sidelined.

“Such sentiments should not overshadow the efforts of the Federal Government, especially under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

Masiung noted the prime minister has fulfilled nine matters under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 in just three years.

He expressed optimism that GRS would emerge as the bloc winning the most seats in the election.

Polling is on Nov 29 while early voting will be held on Nov 25.

Kuamut has 18,228 registered voters with eight candidates contesting the seat.
