Empowering B-40 students for a better future

Applicants for the scholarship need to be Malaysian citizens, 16-25 years of age, hold a school-leaving certificate and come from a B-40 family.

An initiative to provide a bond-free scholarship programme, aimed at assisting underprivileged students to have access to educational opportunities at Malaysia Technology Transformation & Creativity (MTTC) College, through collaboration with Hong Leong Foundation (HLF) is in the pipeline.

It will result in 20 students being successfully sponsored for RM 64,700 each to pursue diploma and advanced diploma courses across a range of disciplines.

As one of Malaysia’s leading TVET institutions of learning, MTTC College offers engineering, information technology and creative programmes, whose education model focuses on hands-on-learning, and where 70% of learning is rooted in practical skills.

MTTE’s mission is to create a labour force of skilled, confident and innovative professionals, who can transform industries through technology and creativity, thus driving Malaysia’s next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

This approach is designed to equip graduates of MTTC College with real-world technical and creative skills, preparing them to be highly employable in a competitive market.

Charlenne, seen here, feels the collaboration will benefit students who need it.

Founder and principal of MTTC College, Charlenne Ong said: “We are truly delighted to collaborate with HLF to give more students a chance to continue their education.

“At MTTC, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to learn and grow. This partnership also sends a message to parents and students – even if your results are not perfect, there is always a place for you to discover your potential and build a meaningful future. Don’t underestimate yourself. Give yourself more options, more opportunities, and a chance to become who you want to be.”

The HLF, established in 1992, being the philanthropic arm of the Hong Leong Group, has dedicated itself to uplifting communities through education, welfare and sustainable development. The foundation has provided support to thousands of students nationwide, emphasising the belief that education is the most powerful tool for change.

Executive Director of the HLF, Quek Sue Yian said: “The foundation has always been committed to supporting underserved students from diverse backgrounds. Education should never be compromised, regardless of a family’s financial circumstances.

“Through this collaboration with MTTC College, we hope to support young Malaysians to explore diverse educational pathways in skills-based competencies, to pursue their dreams and unlock their potential.”

Applicants for the scholarship need to be Malaysian citizens, 16-25 years of age, hold a school-leaving certificate and come from a B-40 family. They also need to demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and the ability to maintain excellent academic performance.

MTTC College and HLF reaffirm their shared belief that education has the power to transform lives. They are both committed to nurturing a new generation of skilled, creative and confident individuals who can shape a brighter, more inclusive and progressive Malaysia.
