Police constable drowns in flood on way to work, engagement plans dashed

Police constable Muhammad Rahimi drowned after being swept away by flood currents while heading to work, ending his plans to get engaged next Hari Raya.

KLUANG: A police constable’s plan to get engaged next Hari Raya will remain unfulfilled after he drowned when swept away by swift currents in Kampung Giching, Sepang.

The victim’s father, Amirudin Mohd Hanifah, 52, said his son Constable Muhammad Rahimi had just returned from buying an engagement ring as final preparations.

He recalled his son enjoying dinner with his prospective fiancee and her family before preparing for his 11pm duty shift.

The road to his workplace was flooded that evening.

“Before he was swept away, he managed to ask residents whether the road could be accessible but he still went ahead even though he was advised not to do so,” said Amirudin.

While fording the waters, his car was swept into a canal, forcing him to abandon the vehicle and swim to safety.

Amirudin expressed appreciation to all search and rescue team members who worked hard to locate his son.

Muhammad Rahimi was found at 7.30am about 50 metres from where he was reported missing. – Bernama
