Kanowit school facilities project completed two months ahead of schedule

The RM49.9 million project to replace SMK Kanowit’s facilities, including 18 new classrooms, was handed over early, benefiting the local community

SIBU: The project to replace educational facilities at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kanowit has been completed ahead of schedule.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project was officially handed over on Nov 5, two months ahead of the original Jan 9, 2025, completion date.

He stated the success of the RM49.9 million project was due to strong cooperation among all parties involved.

The project scope included constructing an administrative block and an academic block with 18 classrooms.

It also featured a surau, a Design and Technology workshop, a computer lab, and integrated science and chemistry laboratories.

Two resource rooms were also part of the new facilities built under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

Nanta said the new facilities are a symbol of hope for improving education quality for Kanowit’s youth.

“With safer and more modern facilities, students will enjoy improved learning,” he said.

He added that teachers will be able to teach more effectively and parents will feel more confident.

The minister stressed his ministry’s commitment to ensuring projects are implemented on schedule and meet required standards.

He emphasised a focus on benefiting people, particularly those in rural areas.

Nanta also reminded school staff to take good care of the new facilities.

He urged them to make the best use of the amenities to nurture outstanding future leaders. – Bernama
