SG man blocks subordinate’s promotion because he has “no social skills” and “is a miser”

When promotion time came, the man mused that since his subordinate “is rich enough” and “is a miser”, he chose the younger colleague instead.

A Singaporean man is facing online criticism after revealing he blocked his colleague’s promotion, citing the colleague’s poor social skills and miserly behavior.

In an online forum, the anonymous man who titled his post “I decided to block my subordinate’s promotion” explained that he has a subordinate who is in his 40s, has been with the company for 20 years, but has only been promoted once, holding a senior executive role.

The man ranted that his subordinate has “no social skills and is a miser.”

“Always don’t mingle, don’t join events. He has no topics to talk with us. Overseas trips all these all don’t have. Super miserly.

“As far as we know he has no debts, so maybe he just lie flat and get his salary.”

When promotion time came, the choice was between him and a younger, ambitious colleague and the man mused that since his subordinate “is rich enough” and “is a miser”, he chose the younger colleague instead.

The post has sparked widespread discussion online. One user criticised the decision, saying:

“You rate a person not by his work related performance but by his social behavior? Why you are so terrible to block a senior’s promotion and gave the opportunity to a younger people? All the traits you mentioned are not performance related.”

“Since when a person’s personal wealth is a criteria for promotion. This is blatantly biased and discriminatory,” commented another.
