Erdogan eyes Ukraine peace talks with Trump after Putin meeting

Turkish President Erdogan says “peace is not far away” and hopes to discuss a Ukraine-Russia plan with Trump after meeting Putin.

ISTANBUL: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said he hopes to discuss a Ukraine-Russia peace plan with US President Donald Trump, adding that “peace is not far away”.

Erdogan made the comments to reporters on his return flight from Turkmenistan, where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.

The remarks were released by the Turkish presidency on Saturday morning.

Erdogan’s statement signals a potential diplomatic push by Ankara to mediate in the ongoing conflict.

Turkey has previously positioned itself as a neutral intermediary between Kyiv and Moscow.

The Turkish leader did not provide specific details of the proposed peace plan discussed with Putin.

His call to engage Trump suggests a focus on post-election US foreign policy under a potential new administration.
