Two Indonesian maids rescued from forced labour in Shah Alam

Police rescue two Indonesian domestic workers from exploitation, arresting a businesswoman and her daughter for alleged forced labour and unpaid wages

SHAH ALAM: Police rescued two Indonesian domestic helpers believed to be victims of forced labour exploitation in a raid on a house in Kayangan Heights.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Ramsay Embol said the victims, aged 48 and 33, had their mobile phones confiscated and were forced to work overtime.

He stated they were frequently beaten and had not received their salaries for the past two months.

One victim had been working for two years and the other for just one month.

Police arrested the employers, a businesswoman and her daughter in their 50s and 30s, during the raid at about 2.30 pm two days ago.

The two women have been remanded for three days until December 21.

The case is being investigated under Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
