Claude Puel is back as OGC Nice manager, replacing Franck Haise to improve the Ligue 1 club’s performance after a nine-game losing streak.
NICE: Claude Puel has been appointed as the new manager of Ligue 1 club OGC Nice, replacing the departed Franck Haise.
The club stated that Puel, who previously managed Nice between 2012 and 2016, begins his “priority mission of improving the team’s performance” immediately.
Nice thanked Haise and his assistants for their work and wished Puel “a good return to the bench”.
Puel spent his entire playing career with AS Monaco before moving into management.
His extensive managerial career includes spells at Lille, Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Southampton, and Leicester City.
Nice currently sit 13th in the Ligue 1 table.
The club recently ended a club-record nine-game losing streak with a French Cup victory over second-division Saint-Etienne.
Puel’s appointment follows the recent return of former president Jean-Pierre Rivere as chief executive officer.
The club is owned by INEOS, the company of British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, who also holds a 25% stake in Manchester United.
In November, players and staff had a confrontation with approximately 200 angry fans following a 3-1 loss to Lorient.
Nice resume their season after the winter break with a Ligue 1 home match against Strasbourg on January 3.
