Brentford boss Thomas Frank expects Brennan Johnson to play against his side despite reports of a £35 million Crystal Palace bid for the Tottenham forward.
LONDON: Brentford manager Thomas Frank expects Brennan Johnson to be available for Tottenham’s trip to his side on New Year’s Day, despite widespread reports of an accepted bid from Crystal Palace.
Several British media outlets reported that Palace have had a £35 million bid for the 24-year-old Wales forward accepted by Spurs.
It is understood Johnson has yet to agree personal terms on the proposed move.
“He trained very well. I fully expect him to be available and able to play against Brentford,” Frank said at his pre-match press conference.
Johnson, who joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million in 2023, was the club’s top scorer last season with 18 goals.
He has been used largely as a back-up this term, scoring four times in 22 appearances across all competitions.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been vocal about his desire to strengthen his forward options.
His side have failed to win in their last five games after a fine start to the campaign.
“If you are constantly under-performing scoring goals, yeah,” Glasner said when asked about the need for new signings.
Johnson is also reportedly attracting interest from Bournemouth, who are set to lose top scorer Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City. – AFP
