MBSP appoints 24 councillors for 2026, including eight new faces, to ensure continuity in urban governance and traffic management projects.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A total of 24 individuals have been appointed as Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillors for the 2026 term.

The appointments, effective from 1 January to 31 December 2026, include eight new members.

Twenty-three of the appointees took their oath of office before Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today.

Sixteen of the 24 councillors are reappointments from the previous term.

The political composition includes 10 representatives from DAP, nine from PKR, two from AMANAH, and two from Barisan Nasional (BN).

One councillor represents a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The eight new faces are Linda Ng Kerh Wei (DAP), Tan Chee Teong (DAP), K. Yoganraj Thever (DAP), Hasrul Husin (PKR), Ahmad Rizal Abd Hamid (PKR), Anuar Yussoff (PKR), Datuk Mohd Zaidi Said (BN), and Chang Kim Joo (NGO).

Mohd Zaidi was absent from the swearing-in ceremony at Menara MBSP and will take his oath on 6 January.

In his speech, Chow called on all councillors to be responsive, knowledgeable, and accountable.

He urged them to address local issues and deliver accurate, fact-based information to the public.

Chow also expressed hope that MBSP and the council would develop and implement the Seberang Perai Traffic Dispersal Plan.

This plan includes upcoming projects like the Juru-Sungai Dua Traffic Dispersal Project (PTJSD).

The project aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility and economic efficiency across Seberang Perai.
