Chinese couple helps elderly Malay lady on moving escalator

Heartwarming video shows Chinese man aiding elderly Malay woman, proving kindness and unity thrive in Malaysia

IN a time when social media often fuels racial tension, real-life acts of kindness serve as a welcome reminder of humanity.

A heartwarming Reddit post captured a Chinese woman helping an elderly Malay lady struggling on a moving walkway escalator.

The lady held onto the handrail and the woman beside her for support. Shortly after, a Chinese man joined them, assisting her to step off the escalator safely.

The couple ensured the ‘makcik’ was okay after reaching the bottom, showing genuine care.

The clip, shared by Mohammad Mahadhir, was captioned: “Let’s spend a little time reflecting and being thankful that humanity and compassion still thrive in our nation.”

Netizens described the incident as a “reality check” that kindness and compassion continue to exist in Malaysia’s diverse society.

“Humanity treats anyone the same regardless of race or religion, with respect, compassion, and kindness,” DreamboatMikey commented.

Many users urged politicians and reckless social media users to stop politicising racial issues, which only create a toxic online environment.

Sheenanyaa added that online users should avoid using racial “type” labels, calling them derogatory, and encouraged embracing diversity rather than fostering division.

Another user noted, “When we spend less time online, we see more nice things around,” highlighting that Malaysia remains harmonious in real life despite what appears online.
