MAHB passenger traffic hits 15.5 million as Visit Malaysia 2026 begins

MAHB’s global network handled 15.53 million passengers in 2025, with KLIA leading growth as new airline services boost connectivity for VM2026.

KUALA LUMPUR: Passenger traffic across Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad’s (MAHB) global network reached 15.53 million in 2025, signalling strong momentum for the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.

The group’s 39 airports in Malaysia handled 104.4 million passengers, an 11.2% increase year-on-year.

December 2025 was the busiest operational month, with 10 million passengers processed nationwide, a 15.5% rise against the previous year.

“The month was defined by an intense festive peak between Christmas and New Year, when more than one million passengers were processed over a single three-day stretch,” MAHB said.

Managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the performance demonstrated the strength of airport network operations.

“Managing more than one million passengers over a concentrated three-day festive period reflects operational planning effectiveness, close coordination with airline partners, and the dedication of our frontline teams nationwide,” he said.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) led December traffic, handling 6.1 million passengers for a full-year total of 63.3 million, a 10.8% annual increase.

Subang Airport posted the strongest monthly growth at 34.4% to 191,000 passengers.

Kota Kinabalu International Airport saw traffic grow 23.5% to 802,000, while Langkawi International Airport recorded a 23.0% increase to 290,000 passengers.

Penang International Airport rose 12.2% to 772,000, and Kuching International Airport saw a 10.3% rise to 540,000 passengers.

New services launched in December strengthened KLIA’s connectivity, including Xiamen Airlines’ thrice-weekly Hangzhou–Kuala Lumpur service.

Batik Air Malaysia introduced six new routes, including to Osaka and Singapore, while Firefly and Sichuan Airlines also launched additional services.

MAHB’s asset, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Turkiye, handled 49.0 million passengers in 2025, up 17.5% year-on-year.

The group remains focused on strengthening service resilience and enhancing capacity across its network as travel demand grows under VM2026.
