Child’s doodles on passport force woman to postpone flight, incur extra costs

An officer informed her that the passport was considered damaged and could no longer be used for travel.

A WOMAN has shared her disappointment after being unable to board a scheduled flight when her passport was deemed damaged after her young child scribbled on several pages.

In a post on social media platform Threads, user @empatdua.ebonylane recounted how the incident occurred while she was busy preparing for a trip on Saturday night.

According to her, she was packing her luggage when her three-year-old child gained access to her passport and unknowingly drew on its pages using a blue ballpoint pen.

“My heart sank. My flight was that night and while I was packing, my child was busy scribbling all over my passport,” she wrote.

Seeking assistance, she visited the Immigration Department office in Putrajaya, where an officer informed her that the passport was considered damaged and could no longer be used for travel.

As a result, she was unable to board her flight as planned. She was also told that, because the incident occurred on a Saturday, she would have to wait until Monday to apply for and obtain a replacement passport.

The setback forced her to reschedule her journey to Monday evening, resulting in additional expenses of RM620 for flight changes.

She said she hoped the replacement passport process would be completed in time for her revised travel plans.

“I’ve already changed my ticket to Monday night. Hopefully everything can be settled before then,” she wrote.

Despite the inconvenience and unexpected cost, the woman said she eventually came to terms with the situation and accepted what had happened.

She also stressed that she did not blame or feel angry with her child, noting that the youngster is only three years old and did not understand the consequences of the actions.
