PETALING JAYA: Ten people including seven military personnel have been confirmed to have perished in the dual helicopter collision near the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut, Perak this morning.
In a statement by the RMN, seven crew members were aboard the Maritime Operation Helicopter (HOM-AW139) while three were in the Fennec helicopter when the incident occurred. All 10 victims died at the scene.
RMN confirmed that HOM and Fennec crashed around 9:32am during the 90th RMN Day parade at the base.
“Their bodies were sent to the Lumut TLDM Base Army Hospital for identification processes,“ the statement read.
The navy has ordered the Board of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the dual helicopter collision.
“RMN asks the public not to broadcast the video of the incident to protect the sensitivity of the family and the investigation process,“ the navy added.
