Fahmi welcomes new cabinet, praises key ministerial picks

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expresses confidence in new Cabinet lineup, highlights appointments

KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil welcomed the new Cabinet lineup, describing several appointments as “appropriate” and expressing confidence that newly appointed ministers would continue serving the country effectively.

Speaking to reporters after officiating the MCMC Scholarship Awards Ceremony 2025, Fahmi thanked ministers who had previously served and said their contributions to the country remained valued.

“There are ministers who had served previously, some who have been replaced, and some who have changed portfolios.

“On behalf of the Cabinet, I would like to thank all those who have served, and I pray that they will be able to continue contributing in whatever capacity,” he said after officiating the event at World Trade Centre today.

Fahmi also said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would determine the best way for former ministers to continue contributing to the nation.

He said the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed ministers and deputy ministers is expected to take place at Istana Negara at 10am tomorrow.

“For those who are not Members of Parliament, they will first need to be sworn in as senators before the swearing-in ceremony at Istana Negara,” he said, adding that several MPs appointed as ministers, as announced last night, would also take their oath tomorrow.

Commenting on specific appointments, Fahmi said the appointment of Sungai Petani MP, Mohammed Taufiq Johari, as a full minister heading the Youth and Sports portfolio was a suitable choice.

“From my observation, he is very active and full of ideas that can be translated into ensuring that youth and sports in our country continue to excel,” he said.

Fahmi also described the appointment of Hannah Yeoh (previously Youth and Sports Minister) to oversee the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) portfolio as “very appropriate”, noting her experience as the Member of Parliament for Segambut.

“I have had many experiences working with her in advocating various issues for the people, voters and residents in Kuala Lumpur.

“And certainly, issues related to high-density development as well as retention ponds will be among the matters that I believe she will scrutinise.

“I am not instructing her, but I believe these are matters that are very close to his heart,” Fahmi said.

Fahmi also said the post-Cabinet press conference, originally scheduled for tomorrow, is likely to be postponed to Thursday, as the Cabinet meeting is expected to take place at around 2.30pm, tomorrow.
