Three ex-bank sales officers deny bribery charges involving RM146,360 in illegal payments for financing document recommendations at Shah Alam court

SHAH ALAM: Three former bank sales officers pleaded not guilty to bribery and failure to report corruption charges at the Sessions Court here today.

Che Mohd Azri Che Abd Aziz, 38, Mohd Shahrul Affendy Sharib, 33, and Siti Normasyitoh Nordin, 42, entered their pleas before Judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin after all charges were read separately.

Mohd Azri faces four charges including two main counts and two alternative charges.

Mohd Shahrul Affendy is charged with four main counts and four alternative counts.

Siti Normasyitoh faces 22 charges comprising 11 main counts and 11 alternative counts.

Mohd Azri, a former assistant sales manager, allegedly received RM3,414 from a law firm for recommending preparation of two home financing agreements totalling RM503,500.

The offences were allegedly committed on May 27, 2020 and September 27, 2022 at a bank branch in Section 13 here.

Mohd Shahrul Affendy, a former consumer sales executive, allegedly accepted RM4,270 for recommending preparation of four financing agreements worth RM1.08 million.

His offences were allegedly committed between October 2020 and October 2022 at a Kelana Jaya bank branch.

Siti Normasyitoh, a former sales manager, allegedly received RM146,360 for recommending preparation of 127 financing agreements worth over RM40 million.

She allegedly committed the offences between January 2020 and April 2023 at a Section 13 bank branch.

All three face alternative charges for failing to report the corruption to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission or police.

They were charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act, carrying maximum imprisonment exceeding 20 years and fines if convicted.

Alternative charges under Subsection 25(2) carry maximum penalties of RM100,000 fines or 10 years imprisonment, or both.

The prosecution offered bail of RM10,000 for Mohd Azri, RM15,000 for Mohd Shahrul Affendy and RM25,000 for Siti Normasyitoh.

The court granted reduced bail of RM5,000 for Mohd Azri, RM8,000 for Mohd Shahrul Affendy and RM15,000 for Siti Normasyitoh.

Additional conditions include monthly reporting to MACC, passport surrender to court, and not disturbing prosecution witnesses.

The case mention for all three accused is scheduled for January 15 next year. – Bernama
