Elderly woman found dead with slash wounds in Ipoh

A 70-year-old woman with slash wounds was found dead at a house in Ipoh, with a neighbour arrested for investigation.

IPOH: A 70-year-old woman with slash wounds was found dead at a house in Persiaran Pegoh Aman 2, Taman Desa Aman near here, last night.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the incident is believed to have occurred between 4.45 pm and 10 pm, from when the victim was last seen leaving home until the discovery of her body.

“Initial checks showed slash wounds to her body, head and neck.

“A 52-year-old neighbour was arrested at the scene to help with inquiries. He’d been admitted to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in February for psychiatric care,” he said in today’s statement.

Muhammad Najib said police found a machete believed to have been used in the attack.

“The motive is under investigation, and the case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said, adding that the body was sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem.

Muhammad Najib advised the public to avoid speculation that could disrupt the probe, urging those with information to contact Ipoh district police headquarters at 05-2451500 or the nearest station to assist in the investigation.
