JEMPOL: Police have arrested a man for allegedly forcing his 10-year-old son to steal daily necessities from shops.
Jempol Police deputy chief DSP R. Premkumar said the 34-year-old suspect was arrested today following a report from a supermarket supervisor in Bahau.
The report was lodged after the boy was caught stealing a 200-gram packet of Nescafé on his father’s instructions.
“The suspect frequently directed and forced his eldest son to steal daily necessities, such as Milo, from several other business premises previously,” Premkumar said in a statement.
He added that the suspect would scold and threaten to inflict physical harm on the child if he refused to steal.
The child has been handed over to his mother, while the suspect will be remanded tomorrow.
A background check revealed the suspect has seven prior criminal and drug-related records.
He has also been on the police wanted list since 2021.
Police have opened two investigation papers under Section 380/109 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
