Five men arrested over fight at Meru police station in Klang

Five men detained after a fight at Meru police station in Klang, one allegedly attacked with a metal rod. Investigation ongoing

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested five men in connection with a violent altercation at the Meru police station in Klang last Monday.

According to North Klang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao, the incident unfolded around 9.40pm when three men arrived at the station to file a police report.

Shortly after, five other men appeared, leading to a dispute between the two groups.

During the commotion, one of the men from the group of five allegedly struck the complainant with a metal rod.

The chaos also resulted in a television set being damaged at the police station before all the suspects fled the scene.

Following prompt police action, five men aged between 28 and 41 were arrested to assist with the investigation.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident was triggered by a misunderstanding between the two groups,” said Vijaya Rao in a statement.

The case is being investigated under several sections of the Penal Code, including Sections 148, 427, and 324, as well as Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, and Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

All five suspects are currently in remand for three days, set to be released tomorrow. Meanwhile, police are actively searching for other individuals connected to the case.

Vijaya emphasised that police are taking the matter seriously, as the incident disrupted public order at a police station.
