Klang police dispose of RM1.6 million in seized crime evidence

Klang Utara police destroy over 34,000 case items worth RM1.6 million, including firearms, gambling gear, and contraband, following court approval.

KLANG: Police have disposed of more than 34,000 case exhibits with an estimated value of RM1.6 million. The items were linked to 797 investigation papers from 2017 onwards.

Klang Utara deputy police chief Supt Mohd Rahimi Zainol said the disposal followed court approval. It involved exhibits from various crime categories.

“Among the items disposed of were exhibits linked to 2,945 gambling cases, 28,493 smuggling cases, 1,501 general goods cases and 1,181 bitcoin-related cases, in addition to cash amounting to RM296,485.80,” he said.

He stated most items were seized during investigations into serious crimes like murder and armed robbery. The haul included three pistols and hundreds of sharp weapons.

Mohd Rahimi said one pistol was used in an armed robbery and classified as a tier-one firearm. Air pistols, knives, and machetes from robberies were also destroyed.

The bitcoin machine was manually destroyed to prevent reuse. Liquor was disposed of using chemical separation and evaporation methods.

Cigarettes were incinerated in a special chamber, while bottles and cans were recycled. The process was handled by a certified waste management company.

Magistrate Haleez Hasnan witnessed the disposal to ensure compliance with legal procedures. The operation aimed to clear stored evidence from concluded cases.
