Sarawak’s General Operations Force seized RM35.31 million in goods from 23 operations, targeting smuggling of frozen goods, cigarettes, and illegal logging.
KUCHING: The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) recorded total seizures valued at RM35.31 million from 23 successful operations across the state.
The operations, conducted from Jan 15 to 31, targeted a wide range of illegal activities under various codenames including Op Taring Alpha, Op Bravo, and Op Batas/Awas.
Sarawak Brigade commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said the largest seizure involved frozen products without permits, worth RM25.01 million.
Untaxed cigarettes and alcoholic beverages valued at RM5.79 million were also confiscated during the period.
Controlled goods and basic necessities, including garlic, sugar, and rice, were seized with an estimated value of RM1.17 million.
The GOF also dismantled illegal logging activities, seizing logs valued at RM425,000.
Fireworks and firecrackers without permits, worth RM2.21 million, were confiscated along with vehicles and equipment used in the illegal activities.
All arrests and seizures have been handed over to the relevant enforcement agencies for further action.
“The Sarawak Brigade will continue to intensify enforcement operations to curb smuggling and cross-border crimes,” Lim said in a statement.
He added that the force aims to ensure public safety and order are always maintained.
