Police detain six, including a married couple, for a planned theft of telecom equipment from a Nilai substation, seizing tools and vehicles used in the crime.
NILAI: Police have arrested six individuals, including a married couple, for a break-in at a telecommunications substation.
The suspects, aged between their 30s and 40s, were detained at several locations between yesterday evening and early this morning.
Nilai district police chief Supt Johari Yahya said police were alerted to the incident at the Nilai Spring site yesterday.
“Checks found that the caging door of a Remote Radio Unit had been forced open and several pieces of equipment were missing,” he said.
Police seized several units of telecom equipment, including Huawei RRUs and a Quad Band Combiner.
Various tools and vehicles believed used in the crime were also confiscated.
Johari said initial investigations found the group acted in a planned manner.
He stated the stolen equipment components were intended for sale in the scrap metal market.
Most of the suspects have prior criminal records for theft, robbery and drug offences.
All six were brought to the Seremban Court today for remand applications.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking.
Police have not ruled out the group’s involvement in other theft cases in the Nilai area.
The public with information is urged to contact the Nilai district police headquarters.
