Three men die in separate fall incidents in KL, Penang

Three men in KL and Penang died in separate fall incidents, with cases under SDR and DOSH investigating safety breaches.

KUALA LUMPUR: Three men died in separate fall incidents in Kuala Lumpur and Penang over the past two days, authorities confirmed.

In the capital, a 32-year-old man died after falling from the third floor of a building in Pudu while attempting to retrieve a pickleball during a game last night.

Wangsa Maju police chief ACP Mohamad Lazim Ismail said the victim had climbed a fence at the edge of the court before losing his balance and plunging to the ground floor.

The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR).

In a separate case earlier this morning, a 77-year-old man died after falling from the 19th floor of a residential building in Setapak.

He was found lying behind a guardhouse, and the case has also been classified as SDR.

In Penang, a 49-year-old maintenance manager died after falling through a brittle translucent roof panel at a manufacturing facility yesterday.

Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) director Hairozie Asri said the accident occurred at 8.30 am when the victim stepped on an aged and weakened roof section that had blended in colour with zinc panels.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

DOSH has issued a prohibition notice halting all work at height at the site pending a full investigation.

The employer has been instructed to conduct an internal inquiry, identify root causes and propose corrective measures. Legal action may follow if breaches of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 are found.
