LHDN urges taxpayers to update details year-round

Taxpayers should update their tax information regularly, not just during e-Filing season, to ensure accuracy and avoid penalties.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) is urging taxpayers to proactively update their information throughout the year. Senior revenue executive Azaharuddin Mohd Ali said awareness of tax responsibilities often peaks only during the annual filing period.

He noted that many people only log into the MyTax portal when submitting returns. Regular checks are crucial to keep details like income, reliefs, and tax status accurate and current.

“Tax compliance goes beyond payment,” Azaharuddin said during an appearance on Bernama Radio. He emphasised it includes honest income reporting, maintaining proper records, and understanding eligible reliefs.

He warned that failing to meet tax obligations could lead to enforcement action. The public was encouraged to use digital platforms like MyTax for easier management of their affairs.

“The platform not only simplifies e-Filing but also allows users to review information, update profiles and receive notifications quickly,” he added. He also highlighted that tax revenue is vital for funding national development projects.

This includes infrastructure, education and healthcare programmes for the benefit of all citizens.
