KPWKM requests Digital Ministry to form AI and NI expert team for school child advocacy programmes addressing online safety and statutory rape awareness.
KUCHING: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry has requested the Digital Ministry to establish an artificial intelligence and natural intelligence expert team.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said this would strengthen the ministry’s child advocacy programme implemented in schools nationwide.
She submitted the request to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
Nancy explained the urgent need to provide students comprehensive exposure to AI technology versus human natural intelligence.
“We have a child advocacy programme in schools, but it still lacks content on AI and NI,” she told reporters after officiating the Citra Akademik Untuk Komuniti dan Alam programme.
“Many children are involved in online games and are heavily influenced by the AI elements embedded in these games.”
She emphasised the importance of children understanding that AI is artificial while they possess natural intelligence.
KPWKM conducts advocacy programmes in at least 300 schools annually, often exceeding targets through expansion to Children’s Activity Centres.
As of October 3, 327 schools had participated in the programme this year.
Nancy highlighted crucial cooperation from the Education Ministry, police, MCMC and local community networks for programme effectiveness.
She also supported TikTok’s #ThinkTwice Parental Advisory campaign for strengthening family digital wellbeing.
The campaign helps parents monitor teenagers’ digital safety through TikTok, Content Forum and MCMC collaboration.
Additionally, Nancy requested police reinforcement of statutory rape awareness educational materials.
“Every child has the right to know,” she stated.
“We do not want them experimenting without understanding the consequences of engaging in sexual activity.”
Separately, Nancy confirmed continued monitoring of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin’s younger brother’s family.
The Social Welfare Department will ensure compliance with 14 strict conditions for the six-year-old’s safety.
Conditions include not leaving him unattended, protection from neglect or abuse, and appropriate education and therapy.
JKM officers will conduct periodic monitoring including home visits to verify care arrangement compliance.
The boy cannot appear on social media, and the family must inform JKM of any address changes.
Breach of conditions authorises JKM to reclaim the child and place him under protection.
Any reclaim action must undergo court assessment by the protector and magistrate decision. – Bernama
