Oil palm trailer overturns, blocks Sarawak road after driver loses control

A trailer carrying 30 tonnes of oil palm overturned on Jalan Sri Aman-Simunjan, blocking traffic for nearly two hours. The driver was unhurt.

SIMUNJAN: A trailer carrying a load of oil palm overturned after its driver lost control on a bend this morning.

The incident occurred near Kampung Jirok at Jalan Sri Aman–Simunjan/Serian at approximately 9.45 am.

Simunjan district police chief DSP Rafhan Kepli said the 33-year-old driver was travelling from Saratok to Serian when the accident happened.

The overturned trailer spilled nearly 30 tonnes of oil palm across the roadway.

“The overturned trailer blocked both lanes from the direction of Sri Aman to Serian,” said Rafhan.

He confirmed the driver was not injured in the incident.

Company workers moved the spilled oil palm to the roadside, allowing the road to reopen to traffic by about 11.30 am.

Work to transfer the oil palm to another trailer is ongoing without disrupting traffic flow.

Police are investigating the case under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
