MOH is in contact with WHO to verify Nipah virus reports from India, maintaining border surveillance and readiness.
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health is in constant contact with the World Health Organisation and international counterparts to verify social media reports of Nipah virus cases in India.
The ministry said the situation is being closely monitored through official channels to ensure accurate information is obtained.
“Any further public health measures will be decided based on confirmed information and careful risk assessment,” it said in a statement.
Public health preparedness at all points of entry remains operational under established protocols.
These measures include health surveillance and risk-based screening of travellers.
Clear referral pathways exist for symptomatic travellers, and the Emergency Medical Team maintains operational readiness.
“MOH emphasises that border health control measures are continuously maintained and will be scaled up proportionately based on the evolving risk assessment,” it added.
According to the WHO, Nipah virus disease is a zoonotic infection transmitted to humans from animals, contaminated food, or directly between people.
Infection can cause fever, headache, cough, sore throat and difficulty in breathing.
