Malaysian police arrest a suspect in Ops Jack Sparrow for organised crime and assault, with charges filed under the Penal Code following cooperation with Thai authorities.
PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Malaysia Police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect wanted for involvement in organised crime. The arrest was made under Ops Jack Sparrow by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk M. Kumar (pic) said the suspect was arrested yesterday based on a warrant from the Sepang Sessions Court. The arrest was made with the cooperation of local authorities in Bangkok, Thailand.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 130V of the Penal Code for being a member of an organised crime gang. This section carries a prison sentence of between five and 20 years.
He is also suspected of involvement in a case in Subang Jaya under Section 326 of the Penal Code. That offence carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a possible fine or whipping.
A further investigation relates to possession of a deadly weapon in a riot under Section 148. The punishment for this is up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
The suspect was charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code today at the Sepang Sessions Court. Kumar said charges under Sections 326 and 148 will be filed soon.
PDRM expressed appreciation to the Thai authorities for their close cooperation. The force stressed its commitment to upholding the rule of law to ensure national security.
Media previously reported three main suspects of Ops Jack Sparrow arriving from Mumbai, India. They were brought to the Sepang District Police Headquarters before being charged.
On Sept 11, police carried out an integrated operation in several states known as Ops Jack Sparrow. The operation targeted an organised crime gang with 33 members, led by an individual called “Captain Praba”.
